Know about eligibility for Canadian immigration under certain criteria

A lot of people would like to know whether Canadian government would reduce the application fees for someone found eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship.

The answer is in the negative, although the present dispensation is quite liberal. The fees for application and right of citizenship will continue to be the same. There will be no difference as such even if the proposed modifications to the Canadian Citizenship Act come into effect.

The fees, at present, for citizenship under various categories are as follows:

For Adult Grant of Citizenship (Adoption) it is C$530; for Adult Grant of Citizenship, it is C$530; for Adult Grant of Citizenship for Stateless Persons born to a Canadian Parent (Subsection 5(5)) – Right of Citizenship, it is C$100; for Minor Grant of Citizenship (Adoption), it is C$100; for Minor Grant of Citizenship, it is C$100; whereas for Minor Grant of Citizenship for Stateless Persons Born to a Canadian Parent (Subsection 5(5)), there is no fee.

Besides the above for all applicants, Right of Citizenship fee is C$100.

Many people are also not sure if French language proficiency is mandatory when immigrating to Quebec. We attempt to clear these points as we explain the Quebec Skilled Worker Program and Quebec Experience Class Program.

The Quebec Skilled Worker Program, the province’s main economic immigration program, states that proficiency in French is not a must. Applicants possessing French proficiency will, however, be awarded points. Applicants without proficiency in French language still wanting to immigrate to Quebec can do so, provided they manage to get the number of points required for their other credentials, including English language proficiency. Single applicants need to score a minimum of 49 points; on the other hand, applicants accompanied by a spouse or a partner need to score a minimum of 57 points.

For those applying under Quebec Experience Class, or Programme de l’expérience Québécoise (PEQ), proficiency in French of an advanced-intermediate level is a must. Apart from that, those applying for the PEQ also need to possess skilled work experience in the province of Quebec or should have got a degree/diploma from an institution recognised by Quebec.
