Noua Zeelandă Imigrație

The international education sector of New Zealand swelled by 13 per cent as 125,011 foreign students were admitted in the country’s educational institutions in 2015, Steven Joyce, Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment Minister, announced on 5 July.

According to the 2015 International Education Snapshot Report, there was a net increase of 14,748 foreign student admissions and growth was seen in every region of the country.

Mr. Joyce was quoted as saying that this demonstrated the nice work that the education community had done across the country. New Zealand’s place as a provider of quality education and study competencies for both local and foreign students was being noticed increasingly, he added.

This tiny country in the South Pacific Ocean generated revenues over NZ$1 billion from international education for the first time. Income from fees touched NZ$1.029 billion, an increase of 17 percent over 2014. As per Statistics New Zealand, the value of education exports reached NZ$3.1 billion for one year up to March 2016.

Mr. Joyce felt that the advantages of international education would not be only restricted to the money generated, but would introduce the youth of New Zealand to insights into people’s cultures from other countries in the world and would, in turn, improve the country’s ties globally. He was of the view that this aspect was crucial for their country to flourish.

Auckland attracts the largest number of foreign students with 63 percent of the total enrolments, while Canterbury and Wellington witnessed enrolments of 8.4 percent and 5.9 percent, respectively. The other growing centres are Bay of Plenty, Hawke’s Bay, Nelson/Tasman, Northland, Southland and Waikato, which have also seen significant improvement in foreign students’ enrolments.

The major markets for education in New Zealand last year were India with 9,013, China with 3,881 and the Philippines with 1,648 enrolments.

Foreign education is the fifth largest export sector for New Zealand as it backs more than 30,000 jobs in the country.

Education New Zealand is looking to increase the monetary value of the international education sector to NZ$5 billion by 2025.
