For 1st time Tradies surpass Profs for NZ visas

Immigrants obtaining NZ Visas for technical and trades jobs are now surpassing those who take up professional jobs and this is for the first time. Laborers are also outnumbering managers. These statistics have been revealed by Immigration New Zealand.

In the current fiscal year, 13,000 trades’ people have been offered NZ visas for work. This is in comparison with the 11,000 New Zealand Visas offered to professionals, as quoted by the Radionz Co NZ. In spite of the toughened criterions in 2017, work visas have overall remained stable.

One amongst the tradespersons immigrating to New Zealand is Alywyn Jackson. He was successful in his visa pursuit after getting in touch with Building Recruitment the job hiring company. Jackson said that he secured a position for a shop fitting company within 7 days as a cabinet maker.

Alywyn Jackson has two sons who are studying engineering. His second son is named as Jonah Lomu after the legend from All Blacks. Kim Campbell CEO of Employers and Manufacturers Association said that the statistics are a reflection of the demands of the businesses.

Kim Campbell said that businesses have reported shortages of skills across a diverse range of activities. However, the real issue is with the artisan trades. Accountants and Lawyers are being churned out by the universities at an amazing rate. There is a limit of their industry absorption added Campbell.

Shortages of trades have been illustrated by Auckland hotel developers. These intend to bring on board 200 workers from China, said the CEO. The construction sites are also a proof to this. There is a scarcity of drivers for heavy transport, he said. The economy is growing and this is a positive sign, said Campbell. Immigration has always been beneficial to New Zealand he added.
