The 4th most populous province in Canada has eased the requirements for two immigration streams. These include:

• Fluxul de vize pentru start-up pentru absolvenți străini
• Fluxul de imigrare a antreprenorilor absolvenți internaționali

On December 7, 2021, the changes in the requirements for Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) streams were announced.

Changes in Foreign Graduate Start-Up Visa Stream

Under this stream, language requirements were reduced to a minimum. That is Canadian Language Benchmark score was reduced to 5 from 7 for English, French, and all disciplines. Candidates who have completed their degree 10 years back can also get qualified for this stream. Previously the candidates who have completed their degree in the past two years.

Changes to International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream

In this stream, Alberta has eliminated the mandatory requirement of 6 months of work experience. It is the main factor that qualifies the chances of getting selected under this stream. It also allows candidates having a valid Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) while submitting their Expression of Interest. In previous years, PGWP is valid only for two years.

Change to Both Streams

Apart from this, international graduates who own and operate businesses in Alberta are qualified for permanent residence who meet all these criteria.

This is an economic immigration program where foreign students outside Canada can launch start-up enterprises and innovative businesses in Alberta. The AINP stream is an association of two agencies, namely:

• Vancouver-based Empowered Start-Ups
• Calgary’s Platform Calgary

After this process, the respective agency will submit a written report about its assessment and the proposed plan to initiate the business. Overseas students can submit their applications to FGSVS business.

How to register to Alberta International Graduate Entrepreneur Immigration Stream? 

For this stream, candidates must operate the business for atleast 12 months in Alberta based on their work permit. Later they can nominate AINP after meeting all the terms for the Business Performance Agreement to apply for permanent residence.

Steps to Permanent Residence

1. Trimiteți o exprimare a interesului

Candidates who meet the criteria are eligible to submit an Expression of Interest. Then they will be reviewed within 30 days of submission. The highest-scoring candidates are informed to submit a Business Application.

2. Submit your Business Application Package

After getting selected from the EOI pool, candidates need to submit a Business Application within a timeframe of 90 days. They also need to pay a non-refundable amount of $3,500 towards the application fee.

3. Business Application assessment

După depunerea cererii de afaceri, aceasta va fi aprobată după primirea tuturor documentelor necesare și evaluarea cererii de afaceri. Un Acord de performanță a afacerii (BPA) semnat va fi trimis candidatului. Este un acord legal între candidat și Alberta, Canada. Candidatul trebuie să semneze acordul și să îl trimită la AINP în termen de 14 zile. Ulterior, vor emite o scrisoare de aprobare a cererii de afaceri.

4. Establish your Business in Alberta

After receiving the Business Application Approval Letter, candidates are allowed to live in Alberta and can operate their own business for at least one year, having a minimum of 34 percent ownership.

5. Final Report for AINP Nomination

After meeting the Business Performance, the candidate needs to submit the final report for nomination to AINP. If it is approved, then AINP will issue a nomination certificate to IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) and will issue a nomination certificate. Then candidates can happily apply for permanent residence ship in Alberta to IRCC.
