The Al-Ahsa city in Saudi Arabia was recently named as the Capital of Arabia Tourism. Saudi Arabia has been increasing its efforts to promote the tourism sector.

The city received this honor in the 21st edition of the Ministerial Council of Arabia on Tourism (AMCT). It was after Al-Ahsa fulfilled all the criterion specified by the Arab Tourism Association.

Dr. Fahd Al Fuhaid Bandar bin the President of ATO said that the city enjoys touristic, cultural and historical status. This eased the decision for the organization, he added. The decision is aimed at increasing tourism revenues. This is with specific reference to Al-Ahsa province, he said.

Al-Ahsa is a historical area and traditional oasis located in eastern Saudi Arabia. It is renowned for its water springs and lush greenery. Al-Ahsa Governorate also uses its name. This takes up the greater part of the eastern province of the kingdom, as quoted by the Step Feed.

Al- Ahsa city the Capital of Arabia Tourism for 2019 has garnered attention on several occasions. It was named as the most innovative city globally by the UN in 2016. The city was listed as the Sit al Patrimoniului Mondial de către UNESCO in July 2018. It became the fifth site in Saudi Arabia to obtain this status.
