For Foreigners, India Is Where The StartUp Buzz Is

India is now, more than ever, looked upon as a global investment destination not just by the MNCs and the Indian Diaspora, but also by foreigners who once considered India an alien land. A land that represented poverty on global scale and which had more people below poverty line than the entire population of the US. However, things are changing and changing too fast for India and its one billion plus population.

More NRIs are heading home to witness the once "Golden Bird" turn into gold again. Foreign nationals too are considering moving to India to explore exciting opportunities and to experience diverse cultures, traditions, and warmth this country has to offer.

One such man is Sean Blagsvedt: born and brought up in Oakland, United States, he now considers India his home. Moreover, he finds US an alien land. Sean Blagsvedt runs a business by name 'babajob' to provide better jobs for everyone; from cooks to drivers, to management professionals and others. Jobs for all skilled, unskilled and blue-collar job seekers.

He was featured in Forbes India earlier, and The Hindu BusinessLine also covered his story recently. Talking about his experience and the current startup eco-system in India, he said that there is immense potential in the Indian market when it comes to using technology. He is now married to a Tamil Iyengar and takes pride to the change it has brought to his life.

Sean Blagsvedt is not alone. There are 10s like him who are heading to India for work and to start their own businesses. According to him, there are more than 50 such entrepreneurs in Bengaluru alone keeping other Indian cities aside. The circle, he says, has become so big that there is Expat Entrepreneurs Circle for foreign entrepreneurs in the country.

The other duo who managed to startup and grow big are Greg Moran and David Back who began their self-driving car rental startup in Bengaluru in 2013. The company was started with 7 vehicles, and now has a fleet of 250 vehicles in Bengaluru and Pune.

Then there is another startup that was in news recently: ZipDial, the "Missed Call" startup. It is the first Indian startup to be acquired by Twitter for a whopping amount ranging between $30 million and $40 million. ZipDial's Founder and CEO Valerie Wagoner also came to India to work for mCheck, but seeing the huge potential 'missed calls' had here, she decided to start ZipDial. It is considered among the most innovative business ideas in the recent times.

That's not all! There is more in store from the startup eco-system in the months and years to come. Other Indian city, Hyderabad, is set to launch an incubator hub for startups to house 100s of businesses and support thousands of entrepreneurs. It will be the biggest incubation hub in India.
