Hillary Clinton commits to offer Green Cards to Master’s and Doctoral-level STEM graduates

Hillary Clinton, the most likely presidential nominee of Democrats, said she would want to see America offer Green Cards to foreign students who graduate in Master’s or Doctoral programs in disciplines of STEM (science, technology, engineering or math) from accredited educational institutions. This was announced by Clinton as part of a comprehensive tech policy plan released on 28 June. The objective, which is to improve education in the field of computer science, follows some of President Obama’s initiatives. This policy would facilitate overseas graduates studying on F-1 visas to obtain Green Cards directly without needing to possess H-1B work visas. To qualify for this, the students would need to have a job in hand. Todd Park, a former US CTO, who had advocated the program during his stint at the White House, had said in his blog post that existing advanced STEM graduates could be the game changers of tomorrow. Clinton also unveiled a proposal that would enable fresh college graduates to launch businesses. As per her program, these new entrepreneurs would be permitted to postpone student loan payments as they start a new venture.
