India to grant 5-year visas to holders of Dutch passports

India is proposing to grant five-year business and tourist visas to people holding Dutch passports. This was stated by Narendra Modi, Indian PM, on 27 June while he was addressing PIOs (people of Indian origin) in The Netherlands. It is said that this country also referred to as Holland has the second-largest population of PIOs after the UK. Modi was quoted by Gulf News as saying that The Netherlands was the natural partner of India. Saying that India was a land of opportunities, he invited Dutch companies to consider investing in it. After he completed his talks with Mark Rutte, Dutch PM, on bilateral issues, Modi met the chief executives of major Dutch companies. They also inked three MoUs in the sectors of social security, cultural cooperation and water cooperation. He also emphasised on the reforms that his government had introduced to improve the convenience of doing business in India in order to make its standards world class. He also stated that India had a growth rate of more than seven percent. Saying that ties between India and The Netherlands were hundred years old, Modi said that the two countries will work towards establishing closer ties economically as well as politically. He said that the Netherlands was the fifth-largest investment partner of India in the world and also became its third largest source of foreign direct investment in the last three years. On the other hand, Rutte said that it was a welcoming development to see India coming of age as a global power. He added that their country was an entry point for India into Europe.
