India-origin students excel at the US Intel science fair

India origin students Four India-origin students have bagged top honors at the Intel Science Fair held in the US. On the other hand, a student from India has emerged as the winner of the US’s largest pre-college science competition in the world. He won the top honor for his project on biodegradation of pesticides in the Environmental engineering category. Almost one-fifth of the top categories of the awards were bagged by Indian-American and Indian students. Every category of the award ceremony had one upcoming Indian scientist which prompted one of the officials of the Intel to say that Indian-Americans and Indians have garnered all the limelight in the award ceremony. The awards ceremony concluded at the city center’s Los Angeles Convention Center. The week-long science event witnessed participation of more than 1,700 students from all across the globe, quotes the Times of India. Virginia’s Pratik Naidu an Indian-American won the award in the Bioinformatics and computational biology category while Oregon’s Adam Nayak bagged the top honors in the Environmental sciences and Earth category. In the Mathematics category, the top award was bagged by Pennsylvania’s Karthik Yegnesh and Connecticut’s Rahul Subramaniam won the award in the category of Microbiology. Intel International Science and Engineering Fair 2017 witnessed participation of more than twenty high school students from different parts of India including Jamshedpur’s Prashanth Ranganathan from Class XII. Prashanth bagged the top honors for his project 'Biodegradation of Chlorpyrifos using native bacteria' in which he demonstrated the innovative method to combat pesticides and eliminating the side effects by biodegradable utilization.
