Japan endorses 126 measures to attract overseas workers

The Government of Japan has endorsed a range of measures for encouraging overseas workers to work in the nation. These are also aimed at easing their assimilation into society.

Shinzo Abe the Prime Minister of Japan advocated his Ministers to make all efforts to ensure that overseas workers are attracted to arrive at the nation. This is not just for big Japanese cities but to smaller communities as well.

The call by Shinzo Abe is just before the law that becomes effective from April this year. It is aimed at bringing 100s of 1000s of overseas workers into sectors with skill shortages.

Totally 126 measures have been adopted by the Japanese Ministers. It includes initiatives for promoting coexistence among overseas workers and Japanese locals. This is also inclusive of assistance to overseas nationals already staying in Japan, as quoted by the Asia Nikkei.

The Japanese Government has allocated a supplementary budget of 55.3 million$ in fiscal 2018. A budget of 16.3 billion yen for fiscal 2019 has also been approved.

The Refugee Recognition and Immigration Control Act will be updated in April this year. It will clear the way for accepting roughly 340,000 overseas workers over 5 years in targeted industries.

The 126 adopted measures include one-stop facilities that are as of now named as Multicultural Information and Assistance Centres. These will be set up in around 100 locations in Japan. The Centres will offer consultations on everyday life and administrative procedures. It will be in 11 languages with the assistance of translation apps and other sources. The languages are Tagalog, Nepalese, Indonesian, Portuguese, Thai, Vietnamese, Spanish, Korean, Chinese, English, and Japanese.

The Government of Japan will also make efforts to ensure that Japanese language schools are present in all regions. New qualifications will also be offered to teachers in the Japanese language.
