Latest statistics have revealed the top favored cities for overseas studies by students across the world. This is also an indication that the process of globalization seems to be unstoppable, at least in the in the education sector.

The most preferred city is London owing to the unique combination of leading global universities and the cultural appeal. The Brexit voting has failed to influence the global market of UK in education as six cities in Britain have occupied a place in the top ten ranking. Out of the top twenty favored global destinations 13 cities are from Britain itself. In fact, the increase in inquiries for pursuing studies in the UK is on par with the trends at the world level.

The next preferred destination is Australia that has its three cities in the top twenty ranking. The USA has just two entries in the global top twenty cities which could also be due to the fact that several of its leading universities are present in smaller cities, as quoted by the Forbes.

This information has been collated by Students.com that specializes in accommodation for students. The period for which the data was collated was September to December 2016. These trends indicate the cities that will be chosen by the students for their overseas studies for the academic year 2017 -18.

The top 20 most sought after cities are London, Sydney, Melbourne, Liverpool, Brisbane, Manchester, Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham, Los Angeles, Nottingham, New York City, Coventry, Paris, Leicester, Montreal, Bristol, Edinburgh, Leeds, and Cambridge.

The top twenty ranking list for 2015 and 2016 are quite similar with some minor differences. Philadelphia, Adelaide, Chicago, and Canberra have been eliminated from the list which accounts for the difference for 2015 and 2016.

This list is an indication of the increasing popularity of the UK as a destination for overseas studies. The reason for this popularity is the global standing of its universities and the appeal of English as the language of instruction.

Founder and CEO of Student.com, Luke Nolan has said that though it was quite early to make definitive statements regarding enrolments from Europe, it could be a heartening trend for the inflow of students from Europe to the UK.

The updated statistics from Britain’s Higher Education Statistics Agency have revealed that for 2015 -16 almost one-fifth of the total students in the universities in the UK are overseas students. Almost a quarter of these students were from the European Union that accounted for 127, 440 students and a rise of 2 percent when compared for 2014-15.

The strength of non-native UK students was specifically high for the full-time courses at the post-graduate level that have abundant students from outside the Britain, 35, 215 or 12% from the rest of the European Union and 138, 955 or 46% from outside the European Union.

The large numbers of overseas students at the universities and colleges in London, the stakeholders in the education sector will be quite anxious to watch out for any indicators pointing out the decrease in the appeal of UK as an overseas studies destination after the Brexit vote.
