US Embassy has announced that normal visa services for Turkish nationals have been resumed. It has said that authorities in turkey have complied with assurances that there will be no arrest or detention of local staff for performing their duties.

The US had stopped nearly majority of the visa services for nationals of Turkey. This was after a Turkish national working in the Istanbul US Consulate was arrested in October 2017. In retaliation for this, visa services for US nationals traveling to Turkey were halted by the nation, as quoted by the Indian Express.

The ambassadorial clash enhanced tensions between the US and turkey. The ties of these two NATO allies have worsened after an attempt for a coup in 2016. The Government of Turkey blamed this on an Islamic cleric living in the US.

Limited resumption of visa services was announced by the US Embassy in November. This was after it was assured that local staff will not be detained for the performance of their duties. It includes communication with officials of Turkey.

The US Embassy also said that it was contended that authorities in Turkey had fulfilled their promise to reinstate the complete range of services. It was also added that Turkey kept up one more assurance also. It was assured by Turkey that it will inform the US in prior if it would plan detention of any staff members in the future.

A statement was released by the US Department of State. It said that the security situation has enhanced considerably for the resumption of normal visa services for national of Turkey. In October a consulate employee Metin Topuz was arrested on charges of spying and suspected ties with Gulen.
