Plan to ease 1,100 pages of UK immigration rules

The Law Commission has proposed to revamp and simplify the 1,100 pages of UK immigration rules. This is to make it easier for people to understand the immigration policies.

The Law Commission in the UK reviews and advises changes to legislation to the Government. It will be holding consultations on comprehensive proposals for immigration rules. This outlines the practice and policy of the Home Secretary to regulate the arrival and stay of individuals in the UK.

The plan is inclusive of auditing overlapping laws and limiting the number of times rules are changed annually. The independent body has been sponsored by the Home Office to complete the project. It will not review any issue of major immigration policy, as quoted by the Guardian.

The Commission believes that simple laws will enhance transparency for applicants. It will also result in faster decision making by the caseworkers of the Home Office.

Critics inclusive of Lawyers and Senior Judges regularly censure the complicated UK immigration rules. This is for being outdated, repetitive and tough for people to navigate. It is for those looking to immigrate, visit, study, work or obtain refuge in the UK.

The immigration rules were introduced in 1973. Since then, these have grown to 1,100 pages from just 40 pages and have nearly increased 4 times in length in the last 10 years. Officials of the Home Office have made 5,700 plus changes to the immigration laws after 2010.

Nicholas Paines QC Public Law’s Law Commissioner said that the Home Office has sought their assistance in setting things right. Our plan will bring in more clarity in language. It will improvise the presentation of laws so that it is easy to understand them and follow, said Nicholas Paines QC.
