Texas Immigration Law opposed by the US Lawyers

Texas Immigration Law has been opposed by several of the US Lawyers representing municipalities in Texas and immigration support groups. They have told the Federal Courts of Appeal that local law enforcement has been illegally burdened. This is owing to the state law that cracks down on the sanctuary cities.

The arguments for Texas Immigration Law were heard by the Fifth US Circuit Appeals Court. It heard whether the law enacted in spring by the Texas legislature must be blocked. The panel of three judges did not indicate when it would pass the order.

Texas Immigration Law mandates local law enforcement agencies to honor detention request from federal immigration. It mandates them detain people in local jails for likely deportation. The law also has provisions of criminal sanctions against local officers. This is if they are supposed to have limited enforcement of federal immigration.

New Orleans Federal Court of Appeals will hear the arguments in the lawsuit for the Texas law crackdown against sanctuary cities. This has been challenged by many city governments in Texas and advocates for civil rights. The Texas immigration law is a part of the measures by US administration to stiffen so-called illegal immigrants. Officials of Texas will be arguing in favor of the law, as quoted by the US News.

Opponents of this law have said that it is very comprehensive. Some local officers could face punishment for even speaking against it. This has however been refuted by Scott Keller the Texas Solicitor General.

The Texas law also empowers police to question regarding the immigration status of individuals. This is even in case of day to day interactions such as stops at traffic.
