Thailand To Amend Visa And Work Permit Rules

In an attempt to lure foreign investors, tourists, skilled, and unskilled workers to the country, Thailand government has proposed changes to visa and work permit rules. The Junta is also in support of the proposal. Suggestions made by the Joint Standing Committee include segregation of work permit rules for foreign investors and unskilled migrant workers, giving more benefits to the foreign investors. Mr. Kalin Sarasin, the Secretary General of Thai Chamber of Commerce, informed that the meeting held during the month of September has put emphasis on the proposed changes to improve the overall process for work permit applications. Once the amendments are in place, entrepreneurs who visit Thailand to attend a meeting or to participate in an exhibition do not require a work permit. In addition to that, foreign teachers will be granted a two years work visa, and visitors to Thailand for medical treatment will be given a permit to reside for a period anywhere between 60 and 90 days, with an option to extend in the future.
