Ukraine to launch e-visa service from 2018

Ukraine is scheduled to launch e-visa service for overseas nationals entering the country from 2018, announced a senior Foreign Ministry of Ukraine on 18 December.

Andriy Zayats, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s State Secretary, was quoted by Xinhua as saying in an interview with LB.ua, a Ukrainian online media outlet, that with the introduction of e-visas, it will become possible for foreign nationals to apply online for the Ukrainian visas beginning from the first quarter of 2018.

This move will ease the work burden on consular points of Ukraine at airports and encourage more foreign tourists, who were granted visa-on-arrival entry to the Eastern European country, to enter it, he said.

In 2016, the visa-on-arrival policy was introduced by Ukraine for Chinese and other nationals at Boryspil Airport in Kiev and the airport of Odessa in Ukraine, its southern Black Sea resort.

Nationals of countries with which Ukraine has visa-on-arrival agreements can get Ukrainian entry visas once they arrive on its shores if they hold a document, which confirms the visit’s purpose, whether it be business or tourist.

After the visa policy was liberalised by the country, the number of Chinese nationals arriving in Ukraine has grown by over 50 percent as 20,555 visitors from the Asian country arrived in 2016, a record for the entire decade.
