Vindaloo visas needed to cater to shortage of curry chefs says UK MP

Liberal Democrat MP for Twickenham has said that Vindaloo visas are needed to cater to the shortage of curry chefs in the UK. These visas along with several immediate measures are needed to save the country’s favored cuisine, added Sir Vince Cable. He was addressing the gathering at the UK Curry Awards in London.

Sir Vince Cable Liberal Democrat party leader in the UK has urged the government to launch provisional Vindaloo visas. These are required to cater to the drastic shortages of staff being faced by the curry restaurants, explained Liberal Democrat MP.

The provisional Vindaloo visas will have a validity of one year. It will be applicable for chefs from the Indian sub-continent to resolve the crisis being faced by the curry industry in the UK, added Mr. Cable.

The UK curry industry is estimated at 3.6 billion pounds, as quoted by the Hindu. It comprises of restaurants with roots in Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India. These now fear to get shut down at the rate of 4 per week. This is due to the curbs on visas utilized by these restaurants to hire Indian sub-continent chefs.

What was earlier being expressed as doubts, the scarcity of chefs in curry industry is now a reality. This industry is now adversely affected by the false assurances by Brexit supporters. The pro-Brexit camp had said that vote for EU exit would imply hiring of more workers from South Asia. This would be due to the meager EU workers who would remain in the UK. It has not materialized to be so, however, added Sir Vince Cable.

50% of the total 6,000 curry restaurants are predicted to close down forever within 10 years. This is according to the analysis of the UK Curry Awards.
