Information on German work visas and job permits

If you belong to the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland, you do not need a work permit to work in Germany. You are eligible to work with a valid passport or ID card.  And you have full access to the German job market.

 

If you belong to U.S, Israel, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand or South Korea, you can travel to Germany without a visa and can apply for a work permit and search for a job.

Recognition of your qualifications

The Federal Office of Germany will help you acquire recognition of your professional skills if you got them outside Germany. From April 2012, foreign jobseekers can get their professional qualifications obtained outside Germany recognized and verified if it meets the requirements of the profession in Germany. This is important especially for regulated professions such as doctors, nurses or teachers.

If you are from the EU, EEA or Switzerland, you can look for a job in Germany through the EURES (European Employment Services) website. You can upload your CV on this website. This site also provides information on the legal and administrative matters connected with working in Germany.

 

The largest provider of job search services is the Federal Employment Agency, it has a network of over 700 agencies and offices around the country. It provides information on job opportunities including casual work opportunities in Germany. You can upload your profile on the site and even specify what you are looking for. ZAV or the Central Foreign and Specialist Placement Agency gives instructions in various languages on how you can make use of the services of the Federal Employment Agency.
